Summertime and the Reading's Easy
Upcoming events, poolside reading recs, and the summer pasta I'm making on repeat
Happy Summer, friends!
For me, the season officially kicked off on Sunday, when I dropped my daughter off at camp and then headed straight to the pool for an afternoon dip that stretched well into evening. There’s so much to love about summer: long, hazy days, grilled hot dogs, the jingle of the ice cream truck, and my personal favorite, devouring books by the pool. My own TBR is side-eyeing me as I write this, since for months now, I’ve justified my ever-growing pile of new books by saying, “I’m going to read it this summer!” To be fair, the only way I’ll succeed in this grandiose plan is if I stop doomscrolling and redirect my attention to reading (the boldest of dreams). But I do have some great recs, which I’m excited to share!
Turns out I have a lot of grandiose plans for the summer, TBR notwithstanding. I’ve leaned into my destiny as an elder millennial by starting a vegetable garden (which includes pumpkins and glass gem corn because I am a fall girlie at heart) and I need to tackle my kids’ closets. I’ll also be wrapping up edits on book three this summer, which means it’s time to start thinking about what to write next. The problem is that I have too many ideas and want to write everything. Another rom-com? Absolutely. I can’t decide between two ideas, so why not both? A thriller? I’ll never say never.
On the other hand, all I want to do is disappear under an umbrella and spend the day lost in a good book. Once the weather gets warm, I feel like Elle Woods, staring longingly through the window at the frat party outside. It’s a constant push-pull of wanting to write vs. wanting to wilt like a lily on a pool float.
It’s not all summer daze though, because I have a bunch of exciting events on the calendar this summer. Here’s an overview and some details about each:

What I’m Reading:
‘Tis the season for reading by the water! Here are a few books that I’ve read and loved recently, as well a snapshot of my TBR:
What I’ve Read and Loved:
The Other Side of Now, by Paige Harbison: I cannot gush about this book enough. It’s easily one of the best books I’ve read recently and you need it immediately.
The Husbands, by Holly Gramazio: Like TOSON, The Husbands uses magical realism to explore the theme of the road not taken, and was such a captivating and unique story.
What I’m Currently Reading and Loving:
Soon by You, by Dahlia Adler: This book, pitched as Nobody Wants This meets 27 Dresses, is one of my best romances I’ve read recently. It comes out January 1, 2026, so keep this one on your radar!
On My TBR:
Winging It With You, by Chip Pons
Everyone Is Lying to You, by Jo Piazza
Park Avenue, by Renée Ahdieh
Sounds Like Love, by Ashley Poston
The Love Lyric, by Kristina Forest
Last Night Was Fun, by Holly Michelle
Can’t Get Enough, by Kennedy Ryan
Don’t Let Him In, by Lisa Jewell
Love You to Death, by Christina Dotson (out 7/22!)
What I’m Cooking:
As much as I love to cook, when the weather is hot, I am turned off by the thought of a heavy meal. All I want to eat is summer pasta with fresh vegetables. I’ve been making this recipe on repeat and my husband and I never get tired of it. Let me know if you make it!
And that’s a wrap! Happy Reading, everyone. I hope to see you at one of this summer’s events!
