Hi friends,
I’m been a minute since I checked in! First, I want to thank you all for supporting the launch of Never Planned on You. Whether you bought the book, promoted it on social media, or attended an event, you made my sophomore release so special and I am incredibly grateful!
February and March were busy, but I had a blast on book tour. I had great conversation partners, visited cities I’ve never been to before, and met so many readers! The highlight was probably when an audience member asked me if it was difficult to publish a book right out of college. That is the way to my 39-year-old heart!
Last week, I submitted my third book, Rewrite the Stars, to my editor. Turning in a book always feels like the last day of school. You’re free for the whole summer (or at least a few weeks!) and the world is your oyster (or your “erster” as the Newsies would say). While waiting for her notes, I’ve been attending to spring cleaning tasks in my sorely-neglected house, as well as getting ready for Passover, which starts on Saturday. I start cooking a week in advance, and one of the first things I made was a batch of matzo ball soup.
Matzo ball soup played a key role in my first novel, Till There Was You (second only to Lexi’s blueberry pancakes). I’d like to say my version is just like Lexi’s—after all, my pancakes are—but the truth is, there’s no way we are making the same soup. Lexi is a professional chef: our girl is definitely making her soup from scratch. And mine is…less so. ;-)
Every year, I intend to try Ina Garten’s recipe, or maybe Jake Cohen’s. But inevitably, I end up making the same, non-quite homemade version. It’s easy and delicious, everyone loves it, and if it’s not broke, why fix it?
If you’re looking for a recipe to make for Passover, or just want a warm, cozy meal during this eternal winter, I’m attaching my recipe below. Let me know if you try it!
You can also watch me make it here.
What I’m Watching: I’ve fully hopped on the bandwagon when it comes to TV shows. My husband and I tore through both seasons of Severence, and now that White Lotus has ended, we started Hacks. I am loving it so far! I’ve been told to watch it for ages and I’m so happy that I finally listened!
What I’m Reading: I’m 1/3 of the way through First-Time Caller, by B.K. Borison. It’s a rom-com set in Baltimore and as a native, I am loving all the references. The thought of a date at Captain James Seafood Palace has me cackling. Also, the main characters work at a fictional radio station called 101.6 Light FM and I can’t stop singing the “101.9 Light FM” jingle (IYKYK).
I’ve also just started You Deserve To Know, by Aggie Blum Thompson. It’s a thriller about three families who are close friends…until someone’s husband gets murdered after their weekly Friday night dinner. It’s great so far, and I’m excited to meet Aggie at the Gaitersburg Book Festival next month!
Well, that’s all from me! Wishing everyone a great week, happy holidays, and hopefully, some warmer weather to come.
